Rosina Tolka is the Grand Prize winner of our Six Weeks of Socks for Annie and her family. And this is what she wrote....
I was sooooo excited when I heard your message! Of course, I didn't
believe my son when he told me I had a message, and that I'd won
something. I'm glad that I could help Annie & her family, on top of
being glad to win.
Congrats to Rosina and as always, thanks for your generosity for Annie and her family during this trying time.

Grand Prize Winner!
Thank you again to everyone who purchased tickets over the past 7 weeks. We were overwhelmed by the response. However in retrospect it wasn't surprising. We have made so many friends in the knitting community. When one knitter needs help, it seems like so many come running. On behalf of Annie and her family we would like to thank you all from the bottom of hearts.

Winner of Week 5, Carol Hurt
Carol Hurt was the Week #5 winner in the Six Weeks of Socks Contest and to her we sent a lovely skein of Cherry Tree Hill skein of sock yarn, colorway, Life's a Beach. She sent this email to us after she won.
Whoo hoo - you just called to say I won a week of socks for the donation to Annie and Jerry. I have to tell you that....24 years ago I was given 2 months to live with cancer around my heart and in my lung. I'm still here! - knitting away and thinking of Annie each and every day. I'm praying for a miracle for Jerry, just as the one I received!!! Annie, take one day at a time.
Thanks to Main Street Yarns & Fibers for helping Annie and Jerry!
Thank you Carol for the positive message of inspiration and for sharing your story with us. You are obviously a real fighter and we loved reading your amazing survival story.
Annie and Gerry leave today for Gerry's treatment in Rochester, NY and we are sending them both well wishes and lots of love as they make this journey. If you would like to leave messages here for them, we will be forwarding them on to Annie.

Sundays
Right now I am in Atlanta with family, knitting my husband's 2nd sock, smelling the huge breakfast that my cousin loves to cook when we are all together, listening to my MIL break the ends of green beans for lunch, watching my nephew pull up and walk and looking out the window at the glorious pouring rain. As a child of a farmer, I yearn, hope, and long for rain like this, especially in the month of July.
So whatever it is you do on Sunday, be it gardening, swimming, going to brunch, riding your bike, felting or knitting, remember to savor it.
Tomorrow afternoon, don't miss the drawing for the skein of Trekking Pro Natura!!

Friends
A regular customer in our store, whose absence has been going on well over a year, stepped through our doors today to tell us that she has been sick with cancer but is now in remission. We have been helping customers, dyeing, carding and felting today and imagine my surprise when I walked in from cleaning my dye mess to see this wonderful friend standing in my shop after such a long time. I was so overwhelmed I could barely speak.
And as I stepped in the post office to take the shop mail, I looked up and our favorite post office employee, who has been in Iraq for the last year, was back at work and completely unscathed. Again, I felt like a soccer ball had been thrown at my stomach (but in a good way).
The point of my teary rambling is this. Life is hard but life has its beautiful moments.

We love Annie Modesitt
Thanks for visiting We Love Annie. We hope that this site will serve as a hug of support from the fiber community to Annie Modesitt and her family on their current journey. Annie's husband Gerry is battling Mulitiple Myeloma, a terminal cancer that strikes plasma cells.
Annie has graciously agreed to let us help her family. Here are a few ways that you can help out:- Make a donation and enter the "Six Weeks of Socks" contest. Starting July 2, we'll be drawing one name per week from that week's donations. The winner will receive a sock kit (yarn & needles). Check the blog weekly for the new sock yarn!
- Send us your favorite Annie story (kid safe, please!) and we'll post them to the blog.
- Send pics of your knitted/crocheted Annie designs and we'll share those as well.
- Download the blog button (to your left) and link to us from your blog.
If you know Annie, you know her as an eclectic, sparkling, joyous person who is, above all, refreshingly honest and open about her life. On her blog, she shares all--her creative processes, her struggles, her joys and sorrows, her dry humor--and we love her for it.
We at Main Street first met Annie when she came as a guest instructor in March 2006. In the few days she was with us, we grew to love her as many of you have. As we watched this current story unfold on her blog and in conversations, our hearts ached for her and her family. We hope that the combined efforts of the fiber community can ease the pain of this situation in some small way.
If you'd like to leave a comment of support for Annie, please do so. Thank you for your time and support.
